Update on Situation at JHS
Posted by Butts County School System on 10/28/2021
BCSS families,
As communicated earlier this morning the administration at Jackson High School was made aware of a social media post that threatened the students and staff of Jackson High School with violence. School leaders immediately contacted the Butts County Sheriff's office, began an investigation, and have taken the necessary precautions to keep everyone safe.
The social media post is similar to other posts that schools across the state and nation have received recently. School officials and law enforcement officials are still investigating and we will continue to maintain additional officers and administrative support for JHS today. However, please know that this same threat was distributed to multiple schools recently- both in Georgia and across the nation. Butts County investigators have communicated with officials out-of-state who have tracked down the source of this particular threat. It appears that this post originated with another school- in another state- with the same initials as JHS. The post has made its way around to multiple schools across the country.
In summary, all students and staff at JHS are safe and we are not aware of any continued threat to the safety and security of individuals on the JHS campus. However, we will continue to provide additional support on campus today out of an abundance of caution and to remain attentive to safety and security needs on campus.
As always the safety of our students and staff is our top priority. We will always take such matters seriously and investigate them thoroughly.
Sincerely,
Dr. Todd Simpson
